Joint pain can turn everyday tasks into uncomfortable obstacles. For Susan, a retired teacher who enjoyed gardening and volunteering, the aches in her knees and hips were becoming impossible to ignore. What started as mild stiffness evolved into daily pain that limited her ability to move freely. Fortunately, with the help of physical therapy at Infinity Physical Therapy, Susan discovered a practical and sustainable path toward joint pain management.
Living with Discomfort: How Joint Pain Changed Susan’s Life
Susan first noticed pain in her knees during long walks around her neighborhood. As time passed, her symptoms began spreading to her hips. Sitting for long periods became uncomfortable, getting up from a chair took effort, and simple movements like kneeling or climbing stairs felt exhausting. Over-the-counter pain relievers no longer helped. Her sleep was also affected, and she began avoiding social events that required too much walking.
She knew she needed help, but wanted a solution that avoided medication or surgery. That’s when her doctor recommended physical therapy for joint pain management, and she scheduled her first visit at Infinity Physical Therapy.
A Personalized Plan Built Around Susan’s Goals
From the beginning, the team at Infinity Physical Therapy focused on listening to Susan’s concerns and evaluating her unique needs. The initial assessment revealed restricted joint mobility, weakness in her hips and core, and poor postural habits that were likely contributing to her pain. Her therapists created a care plan focused on long-term joint pain management, emphasizing functional improvements that would let her enjoy her lifestyle again.
Susan’s treatment included:
- Manual therapy to address soft tissue restrictions and improve joint mobility
- Targeted strengthening for her hips, glutes, and thigh muscles
- Postural retraining to improve alignment during sitting, standing, and walking
- Gait analysis and correction to reduce strain on her knees and hips
- Education on movement habits and pacing to avoid flare-ups
Each session was designed to gradually build strength, increase confidence, and reduce pain through gentle but progressive movements.
Joint Pain Management Focuses on the Whole Body
One of the most helpful parts of Susan’s experience was understanding that joint pain management is not just about treating one isolated joint. Her therapists explained how hip weakness was overloading her knees and how core strength supported her lower back during daily activity. By addressing the whole body, not just the areas of pain, Susan made steady progress.
The combination of hands-on care and guided movement helped Susan learn how to protect her joints while staying active. She no longer feared walking through the grocery store or standing for extended periods. Instead of relying on pain medications or avoiding movement, she gained the tools to manage discomfort independently.
A Return to the Life She Enjoys
After several weeks of consistent care, Susan noticed major improvements. Her pain during daily activities decreased. She was able to resume her morning walks without limping. Climbing stairs became easier, and she could kneel in the garden without fear of sharp pain. Most importantly, she began trusting her body again.
Susan now continues to use a home exercise program developed by her therapist and checks in for occasional tune-up visits. The care she received at Infinity Physical Therapy gave her a new sense of control over her symptoms and a renewed confidence in her physical ability.
